Focus on quality: high quality materials encourage long term uses

Not only will areas of better quality design and materials last longer, they will also be used more and respected more by users. It’s not just the funders and designers who are aware when spaces are of poor quality design and construction. Better quality materials will result in fewer replacement and upkeep costs in future, and local residents will take more pride in their space.

The Agdon Street Triangle in EC1, was an environmental project to reclaim a dead-end street to create a pocket square. Located in an area with a lot of local history, the streetscape furniture was designed to enhance the local character but also to be robust and suitable. High quality granite was used within the streetscape to lift and complement the character of the surrounding area, but it’s also robust material that will sustain regular use for a long period of time. Strong planting was appropriately chosen for the site’s conditions but also to provide year-round colour and cover.
