Visit Us – Renaisi assists the visitor economy in the City Fringe

Small arts venues, museums and festivals often have difficultly when it comes to building their capacity, which is why the LDA recently funded the ‘Visit Us’ tourism programme for training and support for cultural organisations in the City Fringe area.

The Visit Us programme was delivered in partnership with the City Fringe Partnership and the Cultural Industries Development Agency (CIDA), who commissioned Renaisi to design and produce guidance materials. We were asked to design a toolkit to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the cultural and tourism industries market themselves effectively, as well as attract and retain volunteers to help them run their organisations.

The ‘Visit Us Marketing Toolkit’ included step by step guidance to help cultural and tourism businesses develop and evaluate their marketing, and produce marketing plans and strategies in order to benefit from the increased focus on the city fringe area due to the forthcoming Olympics and ongoing development of east London. A copy of this is available to download here.

In addition to the production of materials, Renaisi also provided training, complemented by one-to-one support sessions, to help companies effectively manage and motivate volunteers and interns. The need for this programme emerged as part of research undertaken by Renaisi in 2007, to identify barriers to growth in the sector.

Senior Consultant Tim Judge says of the project, “We were very pleased to be working with CIDA on this project.  The sector is a fundamental part of the identity of the City Fringe boroughs and its continued success is vital to the economic prosperity of the region.”
