The challenge

We are a Work Programme delivery partner for two prime contractors in London, helping to move customers who are furthest from the labour market into meaningful work.

In West London we are working with MAXIMUS, delivering services from our offices in Shepherd’s Bush. We are also subcontractors to Shaw Trust, operating from our offices in Shoreditch, East London and in Lambeth, South London.

We manage our programmes through a committed team of highly experienced welfare-to-work professionals who specialise in performance and people management, advice and guidance, training and employer engagement.

Our ambition is to be among the highest performing sub-contractors in our Prime Contractors’ portfolios.

Our approach

Our highly trained team of employment advisers and tutors assist customers by delivering a menu of support, tailored to their individual needs and circumstances. These include:

  • One-to-one information, advice and guidance
  • Vacancy brokerage services
  • Employability, interview and CV writing skills workshops
  • Vocational skills training in Customer Service, Retail and Health and Social Care
  • Motivation and confidence building groups
  • Work experience, work trials and volunteering
  • Translation and interpretation services. Self-employment advice. Benefits advice and better off in work calculations. Continued support once they have successfully entered employment.

Impact

Clients referred to our services on a mandatory basis often have low confidence informed by long periods of unemployment. For example, 86% of training participants had been unemployed for longer than one year. This presents a considerable challenge for our service in terms of changing attitudes to work. However, the majority of clients we interviewed for our 2014-2015 impact report highlighted positive aspects of our advice and guidance services. They picked out our staff‘s approach, which contrasts with their previous experiences of welfare to work services:
